Overcoming adversity and accepting change were the themes explored by Simon Weston OBE at pro.manchester’s annual dinner.
The Falklands War veteran was guest speaker at the Midland Hotel event on May 14. He joined pro.manchester chairman Simon Oldfield, who discussed with members the developments and challenges he has faced during his role with the organisation.
Simon Weston, who was honoured with an OBE in 1992, shared his incredible story of overcoming challenges and offered tips to more than 300 guests about how to overcome traumatic experiences through positivity and determination.
Chairman Simon Oldfield said: “Hearing Simon’s story is, to say the least, humbling. His advice and inspirational recovery is a lesson to us all about how we can overcome adversity.
“We are grateful to him for taking time out to share his experiences exclusively with pro.manchester members.
“During my time as pro.manchester chairman, we have all faced many challenges because of the economic climate. As we try to find new ways to make the most of opportunities, we should heed Simon’s advice on overcoming adversity and aim to find ways to benefit from this economic downturn.”
Money raised from the annual dinner charity draw was shared by St Ann’s Hospice and Roadpeace, Simon Oldfield’s chosen charities.
Sue Webster, programme director at BT, will take over from Simon Oldfield as pro.manchester chairman.
