pro∙manchester members cashing in on India boom
MANCHESTER businesses are making ‘good progress’ in India, according to the man leading one of the UK’s biggest companies in the country.
Standard Life Chairman Gerry Grimstone addressed an audience of pro∙manchester members to share his experience of expanding Standard Life into India and said Manchester firms can cash in. Mr Grimstone added:
“Manchester businesses are certainly making great inroads into India but there is no reason why more can’t be done. India's population increase from 2000 to 2010 will be 310 million - the same size as the USA today. There is huge potential to tap into this market. “There are more than 70 Indian companies based in the UK responsible for at least 50,000 jobs. Twenty are listed on the main stock exchange and twenty on AIM. There will be more coming and Manchester advisers can play a major part in helping to introduce them to our markets.”
Simon Oldfield, Chairman of pro∙manchester, said: “Our professional services sector has recognised the importance of promoting itself in India and their companies are beginning to realise that Manchester is a major player. India is poised to become the world’s third largest economy and Manchester is already developing strong links with India’s most dynamic companies. Our members learned plenty from of the best business people in his field.”
