The Gulf
The ‘Gulf’ is a useful collective name for Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. With its vast reserves of oil and gas, combined with a prolonged period of high commodity prices, the region has generated extraordinary wealth in a very short period of time, and therefore represents a very significant opportunity for the UK financial and professional services industry. Most, if not all of the Gulf, have acknowledged that they need to diversify their economies away from oil and gas extraction and production, and in turn, financial services, after tourism, seems to be the industry of choice upon which the GCC countries have elected to focus their efforts.
