Why women mean business
Kate Baldwin, The College of Law
As a working mother you have to mean business. Part-time employment brings added focus as the hours I spend at work really have to count. Juggling family and professional life means very early starts and late finishes are not easy to fulfil. Women have to do business in a different way.
I have learned it is smarter to develop relationships rather than make contacts – it’s more advantageous leaving an event having made a genuine connection with one person than with a pocket full of business cards. It’s these factors that inspired me to help establish pro-women.
I’m encouraged that the next generation of aspiring lawyers seem largely unfazed by the prospect of working motherhood and are optimistic that they will find their utopia. Kate Baldwin is a lecturer at the College of Law in Manchester and also the Company Secretary and co founder of Xentum Wealth Management. Kate has worked closely with pro manchester to establish pro-women and develop the mentoring initiative which was launched by Cherie Booth QC last year.
