Team claims Manchester’s back office credentials will win Green Investment Bank bid

After a recent vote which saw Manchester named as the best city in the UK to locate both a new headquarters and a back office function, the team spearheading the Green Investment Bank campaign believes its another point scored for the city.
It’s the second year running that the city has taken the accolade and Pro Manchester CEO John Ashcroft, who is leading the campaign, believes that this is further testimony to the city’s credentials: “There’s an obvious commercial appeal to Manchester that makes it the most viable option for the Green Investment Bank. The city is rich in private sector financiers, green businesses and political decision makers who have a proven track record in working together with success.”
Key players within Manchester’s financial and green markets have already demonstrated support for the campaign as Ashcroft concludes: “We look forward to working closer with key professionals in the city who have supported our efforts to date. Their belief in the campaign and testimony of the success of their own institutions in Manchester reinforces our own confidence.”
Institutions who’ve taken Manchester up on its back office credentials include the Bank of New York and RBS Global, each of whom has gushed about the city.
Speaking at the time of moving to Manchester Jackie Williams, Managing Director of the BNY Mellon Manchester office, said: "The decision to come to Manchester was based in part on the city's ability to support the Bank's rapid growth. The local agencies were invaluable in helping us to tap into the information and resources that we required to make that decision,"
Williams also reinforced Manchester’s seemless public and private sector relationships adding: “The work of our public sector partners was very important in influencing not only our final decision, but much of the activity that has been going on since then.”
