The AABC is a Register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation.  The purpose of the register is to protect the nation’s historic built environment by encouraging architects to demonstrate suitable competence before embarking on works to historic buildings and thereby avoid damaging or inappropriate work. This register was set up by a group of architects in 1999, is supported by English Heritage, and has about 370 architects listed. There is an ambition to grow the register. Architects are accredited by submitting examples of their work which are scrutinised by an assessment panel. Accreditation is valid for 5 years after which it has to be renewed. There is an accreditation fee and an annual registration fee. A group of volunteers, mainly architects, administer the register on a `pro-bono’ basis.
Due to the impending retirement of our Honorary Treasurer we are seeking a new Treasurer. The role involves simple book-keeping, attending periodic board meetings and preparing an annual financial report. The meetings are held in Manchester or Birmingham. The position is unpaid, and would suit a retired or semi-retired professional. If this role is of interest please contact ken.moth@bdp.com.
