University of Salford unveils its social and economic impact

7th February 2019, 9:54 am

The University of Salford will be launching its Social and Economic Impact Report on Thursday 21 February as part of a new campaign – Salford Untold: Our City, Our Region, Your University– which seeks to shine a light on the impact that the University and its students have on Salford, Greater Manchester and beyond.

Contributing £319 million in GVA to the Greater Manchester economy every year and with 1 in 32 jobs in the city of Salford dependent on the University and its students, the University of Salford is a major contributor to the city region.

And with recent UCAS figures showing Salford to be the fastest growing university in the North West and the fifth fastest in the UK, this impact is only set to get bigger and bigger.

The University is unveiling a report that tells this story at an event that will celebrate the role of collaboration and partnership in driving forward social, economic and cultural change in our city and beyond.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Helen Marshall will speak about how the University of Salford is redefining what it means to be a civic university in the 21stcentury and City Mayor of Salford Paul Dennett will talk about the role of social value in Salford one year on from the launch of the 10% Better campaign.

Following this, there will be a panel discussion with key anchor institutions from across the city. Adrian Mills, General Manager of BBC North, and Chris Burke, Executive Director of Salford-based Morson Projects, will join Helen Marshall and Paul Dennett for a conversation on how large organisations can work together to regenerate, redefine and reinvigorate the communities around them and drive forward progress.

This discussion will be chaired by University Chancellor and Scottish Makar Jackie Kayand attendees will be encouraged to have their say.

Teas, coffees and breakfast will be served and there will be an opportunity for networking.
