Member Spotlight: Rick Gomez, Northwest Managing Director, First Intuition

Introduce yourself

I’m Ricardo (Rick) Gomez and I’m the Northwest Managing Director of First Intuition – an award-winning professional accountancy education provider with expert tutors and exceptional pass rates. I’ve got over 10 years of experience in the education space and my favourite part of my job still remains stepping into a classroom and delivering training. Outside of work I am a husband and what I believe to be referred to as a “girl Dad”.

Career highlight

For me – it’s the journey. I grew up with Hispanic descent in New York City and was the person on paper who would tick all of the ‘socially disadvantaged’ boxes. I never felt that and it didn’t prevent me from having a successful career. To be in a position now where I’ve immigrated to another country, overseeing a business that by its very nature gives an opportunity for other people to develop themselves, all whilst genuinely enjoying it and working with people I love – it’s a highlight for me.

Name three words that describe your personality

Calm, measured and level.

What’s the best thing about pro-manchester?

The same thing that can be said about my 15 years since moving to Manchester – a place that brings people together.

What are your priorities for 2026?

After 16 years on Portland Street, we have relocated and expanded into lovely new premises on New York Street (an ‘ode’ to my hometown!). This gives us the much-needed capacity to deliver high quality training to even more budding financial professionals. The main priority is therefore making use of this increased capacity all whilst maintaining what has made our business successful in the past – prioritising the learner, client and staff experience above all else.

Favourite meeting place in Manchester

I love the buzz of the Northern Quarter on a (rare) sunny day; but when the usual Manchester dampness is present you can’t beat a good coffee shop. For an informal bite, I love Mala for its choice and vibe.

Are there any particular types of businesses that you would like to meet

Those that have accounting and finance trainees that are looking to upskill and become qualified. We have a wide range of clients ranging from retail, healthcare, accountancy firms and public sector. Clients tend to use us as they know we will work with them to design a programme for their trainees that suits them.
