Online Training: Greenwash Awareness – Communicating Sustainability Credibly
Greenwashing is one of the most significant risks facing organisations communicating on sustainability today.
This CPD-accredited, three-hour interactive workshop equips teams with the knowledge and tools to make clear, credible and compliant environmental claims.
Delivered through discussion, real-world case studies and practical exercises, participants explore what greenwashing is and why it happens. It explores UK and EU regulations shaping sustainability marketing, how to apply practical frameworks when reviewing claims and what good practice looks like across sectors.
The session covers terminology, the regulatory landscape, common greenwashing patterns and how to build internal accountability and uses interactive discussion, real-world case study analysis and practical exercises.
Participants work through examples of greenwashing claims, apply a practical “Clarity, Commitment and Communicate” framework to review sustainability messaging and complete a “Capture and Review” exercise at the end to identify actions for their own organisation.
Participants will leave able to:
- Explain what greenwashing is, why it happens and the legal and reputational risks it creates.
- Identify and apply key UK and EU regulations governing green claims (ASA, CMA, EU Green Claims Directive).
- Recognise common greenwashing patterns and evaluate claims against regulatory standards.
- Apply practical frameworks to review and strengthen sustainability messaging.
- Take actionable steps towards developing a Green Claims Policy for their organisation.
The course also draws on the ASA Green Claims Code, the CMA Green Claims Guidance, and relevant EU directives (Empowering Consumers Directive, Green Claims Directive).
Participants leave with greater confidence in sustainability communications, a clearer understanding of regulatory expectations and actionable steps towards developing a Green Claims Policy.
A CPD certificate is provided on completion.
