Business Ambassador and Former Rugby League Star Shaun Briscoe Joins Altum HR

3rd August 2026, 1:55 pm

Shaun Briscoe has joined Altum HR as Business Development Manager, bringing extensive commercial experience and a proven ability to build trusted relationships with businesses, partners and communities.

Many people will recognise Shaun from his distinguished rugby league career, representing England and playing for some of the sport’s biggest clubs, including Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, Hull KR and Widnes Vikings.

Since retiring from professional rugby 12 years ago, Shaun has built a successful career in commercial growth, partnership development and relationship management. Most recently, at Warrington Wolves, he worked closely with local businesses and the wider community to develop valuable, long-term partnerships. He has also continued to develop people as Head Coach of the England Physical Disability Rugby League Team.

His move to Altum HR is a natural progression, building on the commercial experience, local connections and people skills he has developed throughout his career.

As Business Development Manager, Shaun will work closely with employers to understand their businesses, identify the challenges they face and demonstrate how proactive HR support and Employment Law advice can protect their people and give them confidence to grow. He will also build strong partnerships with businesses and professional contacts who share Altum HR’s values, developing trusted referral relationships that create opportunities to support even more employers.

His approachable style, commercial awareness and ability to build trust align perfectly with Altum HR’s people-first approach.

Josephine Broadstock, Partner and Senior HR Consultant at Altum HR, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Shaun to the team. He brings valuable commercial experience and a genuine talent for building strong, lasting relationships. He takes the time to listen, understand what a business needs and connect people with the right support.

“That combination of commercial understanding, integrity and relationship-building experience makes him a fantastic addition to Altum HR. We’re excited to see him build on an already successful career as we continue to grow.”

Speaking about his appointment, Shaun said:

“Joining Altum HR felt like a natural next step in my career. Over the past 12 years, I’ve really enjoyed working with businesses, building relationships and understanding what matters to the people behind them.

“Communication is key to the success of any team or business. It can take many forms, but without it, you will struggle. I’m looking forward to bringing that approach to Altum HR and helping employers access the right support for their people and their business.

“I’m excited to meet businesses, learn from them and understand the challenges they face. You never stop learning, and I’m looking forward to developing further in this role while making a real difference for clients.”

To get to know Shaun a little better, we asked him a few questions:

What’s one lesson that has stayed with you throughout your career?

When you’re part of a team or business, communication is key to success. It can be done in several ways, but without it, you will struggle.

What excites you most about working with businesses?

I’m excited to work with different businesses, learn from them and continue learning about myself. You never stop learning.

What’s your go-to brew: tea or coffee?

Coffee all the way. The only time I’ll drink tea is to be polite if someone makes me one by mistake.

How do you like to spend your time away from work?

Spending time with loved ones and, most likely, playing golf badly.

What’s Next…

Over the coming months, Shaun will attend networking events and visit businesses across the region as he settles into his new role. He’ll also join clients and partners at Altum HR’s Charity Clay Shooting Day this September, supporting Cash for Kids Greater Manchester and helping to raise vital funds for local children and young people.
