McHale Group marks 25th anniversary with record year as fee income passes £10m

The McHale Group of law firms has announced record fee income and outlined plans for further growth as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The Altrincham-headquartered business, founded by Andrew McHale in 2001, saw fee income for the year to May 31 exceed £10m for the first time in its history.

Joint chief executives Adam Horner and Kamil Tomaszewski said the group’s growth strategy includes opening offices in Manchester city centre and Cheshire over the next 12 months, alongside targeted acquisitions. Discussions with two firms about deals are at an advanced stage.

Andrew moved to the group chairman’s role earlier this year, with Adam and Kamil taking over as joint CEOs to lead the next phase of growth.

The group has 152 staff across offices in Altrincham, Stockport, Heywood, London and Solihull.

Andrew established McHale & Co in Levenshulme, Manchester, initially specialising in criminal law before expanding into conveyancing.

Over the past 25 years, the award-winning group has grown organically and through acquisitions, evolving into a full-service legal practice advising individuals and businesses.

Its services for individuals include private client, family, litigation, residential property, employment, personal injury and medical negligence.

The group also advises sportsmen and women and teams on contract negotiations, transfers, commercial opportunities and other matters.

Services to businesses include advising on commercial litigation, corporate, real estate, bridging finance, employment, intellectual property, debt recovery and insolvency matters. The group is looking to add immigration advice to its range of services to businesses.

Andrew said: “It’s been a rollercoaster ride over the past 25 years, and I feel blessed that so many great people have been part of the journey.

“I’m so grateful to our team, clients, partners and referrers who have been so pivotal in our evolution over the years.

“In some ways, it feels as though we are just getting started. I’m hugely excited about what Adam and Kamil can achieve as they lead the group into its next chapter.

“They have a strong platform to build on, and I’m looking forward to seeing them take the business forward while staying true to the values and approach that have been so important to us over the past 25 years.”

Highlights of the year to May 31 included a series of senior appointments as the group continued to strengthen its leadership and operational teams.

These appointments included Paul Fitton as team performance director, Grant Kerns as a group director and chief operating officer, and Lindsay Rhodes as group people officer.

Marta Grzelak, who is celebrating 20 years at the practice, took up the role of group sales and relationships director.

Shaun Little and Patrick Byrne joined as head of corporate and employment respectively, while Andrew Marsden, Jenny Doran and Helen Tran strengthened the property team. Fergus Dalgarno joined as head of the motorbike claims team.

The group has further strengthened its presence in Altrincham, taking an additional 4,500 sq ft at Warrant House to accommodate the continued growth of its real estate team.

Plans are already under way to take further space within the building, supporting the group’s ongoing expansion.

During the year, the group continued its strong focus on staff training by investing a six-figure sum and expanding its in-house leadership academy.

Led by Adam, Kamil and Paul, the academy provides monthly leadership development sessions with mentoring and external speakers. Around 45 staff are currently taking part.

To mark the group’s 25th anniversary, a celebration was held at Bowdon Cricket Club for staff and their families, friends of the firm and other contacts, with nearly 400 people in attendance.

Adam said: “Reaching our 25th anniversary milestone with a record year in which fee income exceeded £10m is a huge achievement and a testament to the foundations Andrew has built and the commitment of everyone who has contributed to the group’s success.

“As we look ahead, we have a clear and ambitious strategy for the next phase of our growth. We will continue to invest in our people, strengthen our specialist teams and expand our presence across the north west, with new offices and carefully targeted acquisitions forming an important part of our plans.

“There’s a real sense of momentum across the group, and we’re confident about what we can achieve over the next phase of our development.”

Kamil said: “The £10m milestone is significant for the group and one we are incredibly proud of.

“However, it represents much more than a financial landmark – it reflects the strength of our teams, the trust of our clients and referrers, and the success of the group’s strategy over many years.

“Our focus is now firmly on the future. We have exciting plans to expand our service offering, grow our teams, open new offices and pursue opportunities to bring complementary businesses into the group.

“At the same time, we’re committed to maintaining the values that have underpinned the business – exceptional client service, developing our people and making a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate.

“Reaching £10m after 25 years gives us a strong platform for the next chapter. We’re ambitious about what comes next, and our aim is to use this milestone as a springboard for the next stage of the McHale Group’s growth.”
