From Expert to Strategist: New masterclass helps business owners build stronger strategic foundations
14th October 2026, 12:02 pm
Many business owners become successful because they are very good at what they do.
They understand their craft, deliver for clients and develop years of valuable experience.
But being good at the work and knowing how to build, direct and grow a robust business are not always the same thing.
That is the focus of From Expert to Strategist, a new online masterclass hosted by Paul Culshaw, founder of Recognition, on Monday 26 October at 7pm.
The free session is designed for founders, independent business owners and people running small teams who want to move beyond day-to-day tactics and think more deliberately about the business they are building.
Paul explains:
“You know how to do the work. The question is whether you know how to build the business around it.”
For many small business owners, strategy can easily become confused with planning, marketing activity or simply deciding what needs to happen next.
The result can be a business that is busy and capable, but still lacks a clear direction for growth.
From Expert to Strategist will explore how real business strategy can help owners make stronger decisions around where the business is going, what needs to change and how priorities should be translated into action.
The session will introduce The PDE Model, which provides a practical structure for moving from planning to strategic direction and then into execution.
The aim is to help attendees think beyond isolated tactics and begin building a business around clearer decisions, stronger foundations and more deliberate growth.
Paul describes the approach simply:
“Plan the business you want to build.
Develop the strategy to get there.
Execute with clarity.”
Paul is a CPD Certified Business Strategist with almost 30 years of experience across digital marketing, SEO, business strategy and advisory work.
Through Recognition, he works with experts and expert-led businesses to help valuable expertise become better understood, recognised and commercially useful.
The masterclass is particularly relevant to people who have built a business around their own expertise but have reached the point where being good at the work is no longer enough on its own.
Questions around positioning, priorities, growth, commercial direction, decision-making and the future shape of the business begin to matter more.
Rather than adding another collection of tactics, the session is intended to help owners see the business itself more strategically.
In summary:
From Expert to Strategist helps you move beyond tactics and learn how to build a business around clear direction, structured decisions and deliberate growth.
Attendees who want to develop these skills further will also have the opportunity to join Recognition’s eight-week Business Strategy Programme, which provides CPD accreditation in business strategy.
From Expert to Strategist takes place online on Monday 26th October at 7pm.
