Rickitt Mitchell is delighted to have advised RideTandem on its acquisition of StudentSafe, the UK’s largest independent provider of technology-enabled school transport services and safeguarding solutions.

Founded in 2019, RideTandem is a fast-growing transport technology business that provides fully managed commuting and education transport for employers and schools across the UK, from shift-based sites to office headquarters. Its services are supported by its own technology, a live operations team and a national network of independent coach, minibus and taxi operators, who also have access to RideTandem’s technology to help run their own services. RideTandem is backed by leading investors including SHIFT and 1818 Ventures.

The acquisition of StudentSafe, established in 2021, is a compelling acquisition and marks a significant strategic step for RideTandem as it expands into the education sector. StudentSafe’s integrated technology platform and managed service offering help schools deliver safe, efficient and transparent transport solutions for pupils, creating a strong complementary fit with RideTandem’s existing transport proposition.

Bringing together expertise in both employee and school transport, the enlarged group is well positioned to capitalise on growing demand for technology-enabled mobility solutions across attractive end markets. The combination is expected to accelerate growth opportunities while further enhancing service delivery for customers.

Rickitt Mitchell acted as lead financial adviser to RideTandem, providing strategic advice on transaction structure and negotiations, while also supporting the company in securing the funding required to complete the acquisition.

Anant Kapoor, Partner and Head of Tech at Rickitt Mitchell, commented:

“RideTandem has built an impressive market-leading platform with roots in helping solve real transport challenges for employers by connecting people with employment opportunities that would otherwise be difficult to access. The acquisition of StudentSafe provides an exciting expansion opportunity into the education sector and immediately establishes deep penetration in this attractive market which is exhibiting strong growth.

The combination creates a highly scalable transport technology group operating across two attractive sectors, underpinned by strong technology, recurring customer relationships and compelling ESG credentials. We are delighted to have supported Tatseng, Alex and the wider RideTandem team on this important milestone and look forward to following the continued success.”

The Rickitt Mitchell team that advised on the deal was led by Anant Kapoor with support from Charlotte Potts and Simon Copeland. Buy side legal advice was provided by CMS, led by Elliot Cowan
