- Introduce yourself
My name is Scott Sands and I am Partner and Head of the Corporate team at Slater Heelis Solicitors. I joined in February 2025 and am still very much the “new guy” in the team, but I am settling in quickly and very much enjoying the energy of the firm. I have been practicing corporate law for over 20 years and have been advising a wide variety of OMB’s, SME’s and their owners across the North-West.
- Career highlight
Whilst I have achieved great results for clients over the years, I am most proud of all the people that I have worked with and trained up over the years and seeing how they have grown and developed their careers. It is great to see so many of them in senior roles across Manchester.
- Name three words that describe your personality
Enthusiastic, energetic and extroverted!
- What’s the best thing about pro-manchester?
The people. There are so many likeminded professionals, and I believe pro-manchester creates the perfect forum to allow people to meet and get to know one another and their businesses in a friendly and comfortable environment. The events are, of course, amazing too!
- What are your priorities for 2025?
Firstly, my priority is to develop the best corporate team in Manchester at Slater Heelis. Secondly – after not working in the City Centre for many years, there are many new restaurants that I want to sample and explore, as well as lots of old ones that I need to see if they are still as good as they used to be!
- What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?
For me, a key highlight is Manchester’s cultural and sporting scene. From exhibitions and theatre shows to major events at places like the Etihad Stadium and Old Trafford, there’s always something happening. The development of Michelin Star restaurants, such as Skof, who earned their star in February 2025, draw people from all over the world and really boost the city’s energy and economy.
On top of that, Manchester is becoming a hub for innovation and business thanks to ongoing investments in infrastructure and technology. We’re seeing smart city initiatives and expanded digital infrastructure, which are opening up new opportunities for businesses and making urban services more efficient.
- Favourite meeting place in Manchester?
San Carlo and Piccolino are still favourites.
- Are there any particular types of businesses that you would like to meet?
Any businesses that are looking for help to grow and/or are looking at succession plans, so basically everyone!
