Greater Manchester employers shape future skills strategy

Nearly 4,000 businesses across Greater Manchester have helped to shape course provision for post-16 learners, thanks to their participation in the GM Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP). Led by Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the LSIP is an initiative from the Department for Education that aims to align training and skills provision with employer needs. Data gathered through survey responses and one-to-one interviews about employers’ skills shortages and labour market issues has resulted in additional courses being implemented across construction, green skills, emerging technologies and AI, basic digital and IT skills, leadership and management, plus many more areas.
