Mirage Islam is a Digital Strategy Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Digital Marketing at Salford Business School. With a career spanning leading global brands, he helps businesses gain a competitive edge by leveraging the latest marketing and communication trends and innovations. Mirage’s industry experience across sectors like Financial Services, FMCG, Mobile, and Media & Entertainment informs his teaching approach, empowering future talent to be industry ready.
Mirage kickstarted his marketing journey in Financial Services and FMCG before joining one of the UK’s largest mobile Internet portals in 2000, where he developed online communities and in-game sponsorship opportunities for iconic brands. He then spent 7 years at Sky, launching and leading its first Digital Partnership Programme and serving as the Future Media Lead with Executive sponsorship.
Since then, Mirage has collaborated with Commercial, Marketing, and HR leaders across the UK and overseas, working with Channel 4, TalkTalk, EY, Coca-Cola, Jardine Matheson, Saatchi & Saatchi, and Publicis Worldwide. His expertise ensures marketing teams stay ahead of the curve, understanding the latest digital marketing trends, innovations, and shifts in consumer behaviour.
Formerly the Chair of Learning and Innovation at the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA), Mirage launched a Digital Skills and Knowledge programme for UK schools in partnership with Microsoft and Sky in 2007. This initiative, aimed at addressing industry skills gaps, has benefited over 11,000 pupils to date, developing much needed digital skills in young people.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, invited for his contributions to the Marketing and Communications industry, Mirage is committed to nurturing future talent. He translates the evolving digital communications landscape, consumer behaviour, and organizational impact to ensure organizational effectiveness. Additionally, he serves as a judge on several digital awards bodies.
In his spare time, Mirage mentors young people from diverse communities and supports charities to enhance their digital capabilities.
