I am currently employed by Adoption Counts as an Adoption Social Worker (Recruitment and Assessment), undertaking assessments of prospective adopters. I support applicants through the approval process, including presentation to Adoption and Matching Panel, and prepare Suitability Reports for the Court in support of Adoption Orders. I also complete assessments for stepparent adoptions. This work is highly rewarding, as each assessment is different and requires careful consideration of relevant legislation, including cases involving children born outside the local authority area and matters relating to assisted conception (including IVF), donor conception, and surrogacy.
Prior to moving into adoption, I worked primarily within the voluntary sector, including roles with Action for Children as a Youth Justice Worker. I also spent almost 12 years with the NSPCC, where I worked as a Child Protection Social Worker providing direct therapeutic support to children, young people, and adults who had experienced trauma. This work also included supporting individuals and families where adoption was a significant factor.
