Brought together by our Healthcare committee, join us for a powerful and inspiring session that puts patients at the heart of healthcare transformation. The Patient’s Voice: Patients Effecting Change brings together a panel of passionate patient advocates who have turned personal adversity into a force for progress within the NHS.

Through their compelling stories, these individuals reveal how their experiences have driven meaningful, lasting change in policy, practice, and culture. This event is a call to action - highlighting that when we truly listen to those who use our services, we can create a more responsive, compassionate, and effective healthcare system. Because when it comes to shaping the future of care - the patient does know best.

Catering is being provided by the wonderful Open Kitchen, redefining sustainable, ethical catering in Greater Manchester. Crafting incredible food using ingredients from local, ethical, independent producers, while stamping out food waste and helping to reduce Greater Manchester’s carbon footprint. About the Speakers:

Thorrun Govind Practising Solicitor & Pharmacist - Brabners LLP

As a former Chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Thorrun has extensive experience in public health and is a leading advocate for empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health. Her clear, relatable approach has made her a go-to voice for trusted health advice, helping people across the UK take small steps towards living healthier lives. Thorrun’s legal clients value her pragmatic and practical approach.. She helps to make legal jargon understandable and provides advice in a digestible format for busy professionals.

 

Matthew Dootson Associate - Clarke Willmott

Matthew is an Associate in the Corporate and Commercial team in Manchester.

Matthew’s experience includes multi-site partnership structures within the healthcare sector, M&A transactions, joint ventures and data governance.

Prior to joining Clarke Willmott in 2019, Matthew spent two years leading the legal function of a national healthcare provider and consolidator from their Manchester office.

Maria Lawal Patient - Co-researcher of BRIGHTLIGHT research -

As a dedicated young black Patient Advocate, with lived experienced as a Osteosarcoma survivor, Co-researcher of BRIGHTLIGHT research, Ambassador of Cancer EdUK, and Member of the European Network of Youth Cancer Survivors, Maria is deeply committed to improving the lives of those affected by cancer.

Through her various roles, she work passionately to raise awareness, through public speaking at various health events and conferences virtually and in person, creating video and audio content, attending focus groups, provide support, to help drive positive change in research advancements in our current health field. Additionally, her background as a Psychology graduate and experience as a Children’s Author using positive affirmations and mindset mantras to improve self- esteem and manifest a positive mindset allows Maria to communicate complex medical concepts in an approachable and digestible manner.

She can offer valuable insights to bio and pharmaceutical companies by bridging the gap between patients and industry, ensuring patient-centricity in drug development, and promoting ethical and effective cancer and other health therapies and treatments, but also allowing the researchers and clinicians to be able to gain more reliable results.
