About the Speakers:
Jimmy Moutray is the corporate partnerships manager at North West Cancer Research. After more than 20 years in the corporate sector, jimmy transitioned into the charity world following his own cancer diagnosis, using his experience to help address the cancer needs of the North West.
Sarah is the CEO and founder of Elephant In The Room Training – ” changing the way CANCER is navigated In the workplace”. With a lived experience of her own Breast Cancer, she is Passionate about Cancer Patients voices being heard and helping shape Cancer services and support for all impacted by Cancer.
Jamie McPhee is Professor of Musculoskeletal Physiology at Manchester Metropolitan University where he leads research to understand why muscles become smaller and weaker with advancing older age or disuse, and what people can do to stay stronger and fitter across the life course. He is also the Faculty Director of Research in Science and Engineering which delivers a relatively broad portfolio of research spanning species conservation in sub-Saharan Africa and Tropical South America, through to peat land and salt marsh restoration in the UK to promote biodiversity and carbon capture.
Alastair qualified as an accountant with the NHS before moving into the Charity sector and working as a Director of Finance for a number of regional and national charities. He became the CEO of North West Cancer Research in 2017 and enjoys the enormous variety which the job brings. In his spare time he is a Trustee of a number of charities and currently President of Lancaster and Morecambe Chamber of Commerce.
Dr Redfern is a General Surgery Registrar working in the North West of England. She is currently carrying out research exploring how strength training and muscle mass can help people prepare for chemotherapy and surgery for oesophageal (gullet) and stomach cancers. Jennifer has a special interest in liver, pancreas, and biliary cancers, and is passionate about improving recovery, wellbeing, and quality of life for patients throughout their cancer journey.
