Focus on: MiMA 2021 categories

The MIMAs are widely recognised as highly prestigious awards due to the extensive judging process that allows us to recognise the best of the best in their field.
There are now 16 awards to enter this year. Let’s find out a little more about some of them.

Our judges will be looking for a well-rounded individual who are committed to their own personal and professional development, who can demonstrate leadership skills, financial contribution to their organisation and commercial awareness. Each award has its own unique criteria that you will find when you select the award and open the entry form.

Apprentice of the Year

This category is aimed at an outstanding individual who has/is currently serving or has completed an apprenticeship in the last year and has demonstrated an ability to go above and beyond their job role to have a positive impact on their business.

Last year’s winner Max Whiteley, Cloud and Accounts – UHY Hacker Young said:
“Amazing night for myself and the rest of the UHY Hacker Young Team, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all, hopefully we can come again back next year! As a young professional from Manchester it was a real pleasure to win the Made in Manchester’s Apprentice of Year!”

Business Owner / Entrepreneur of the Year

This award is for the best business owner or entrepreneur within the Greater Manchester region who has demonstrated significant success in business over the past 12 months.

Last year’s winner Aaron Short, Co-Founder – Accommodation.co.uk said:
“Winning Entrepreneur of the year has really put myself and Accommodation.co.uk on the map – The event was amazing and I felt extremely honoured to have been nominated”

Finance Professional of the Year

This award is for those that have made a remarkable contribution to the financial services industry. This covers the breadth of the finance sector from accountants, bankers, wealth management and financial advisers and brokers, lending services, private equity / venture capital professionals, or other funders within the Greater Manchester region.

Last year’s winner Tom Battersby, Vice President – GCA Altium said:
“It was a proud moment to win Financier of the Year, particularly given the strength of Manchester’s finance community and strength of competition. Many thanks to the judges and pro-manchester for hosting a fantastic event”.

Graduate of the Year 2021

This category is aimed at an outstanding individual who is currently serving or has completed a graduate or trainee program in the last year and has demonstrated an ability to go above and beyond their job role to have a positive impact on their business.

Entries should provide evidence of their hard work and commitment, that has helped them achieve the best possible results in their role and to their further development within the business. Candidates will also be assessed on the positive impact they have had on their employer’s business.

**NEW FOR 2021** Team of the Year

A brand new category for 2021, we want to recognise and reward the groups of people who have worked together to deliver an exceptional performance for their business in the last 12 months. The Team of the Year award has been designed for businesses that can demonstrate and show real life examples of how teamwork has led to their success. This award is also perfect for those who might have felt uncomfortable putting themselves forward for an individual award in previous years, but believes their team as a whole deserves recognition for their work. There is no maximum team size and can include all employees within a business, but 75% of the individuals within the team must be aged 35 or under on 15th November 2020 to qualify for this award.

Marketing and Creative Professional of the Year

This award is for the best young marketing and creative services professional that positively and effectively enhances a brand or organisation. It is open to anyone working in a marketing / PR / advertising / design or other creative role, either in-house, agency or private business.
Last year’s winner Becky Wilkes, Senior Sales & Marketing Manager of the North, D&D London said: “Winning Marketing & Creative Professional of the Year 2020 was an incredible achievement for me personally, I was up against some great contenders and it felt amazing to be recognised for my hard work.”

Technology Professional of the Year

This award is open to individuals who plan, design, develop, implement or manage a technology based function in-house department, agency or private business. This includes people in product/service development, R&D, digital communication, mobile development, network architecture and management.
Last year’s winner James Heggs, Chief Technology Officer, Tech Returners said: ​”I’m incredibly grateful to pro-manchester and our judging panel for the Technology Professional award. It is the culmination of all our hard work and the recognition of the impact people can have when encouraging each other in the tech industry.”

Lawyer of the Year

This award is for the best young lawyer within the Greater Manchester region. This award recognises individuals from solicitors to barristers, legal executives to patent attorneys and in-house lawyers that have made an exceptional contribution to the profession.

HR/Talent Professional of the Year 2021

This award is for young professionals working in human resources, people development, training and consultancy. It is open to consultancy, agency and individuals working in the HR departments of corporate businesses.
​Last year’s winner Rosie Albert, Senior HR Manager, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP said: “I was absolutely delighted to win HR and Talent Professional of the Year at the Made in Manchester awards in February 2020. The nomination alone was great recognition and I was grateful to hear the judges recognise my passion, values and pride in my work.”

**NEW FOR 2021** Manager of the Year

A brand new category for 2021, this award is open to young managers across the Greater Manchester region. The award recognises young professionals from all sectors who have responsibility for managing others and have brought out the best from those they manage through an exceptional ability to support, motivate, and aid development.

**LAUNCHED THIS WEEK** Lockdown Hero

This award is is unique to MiMA 2021 and the unprecedented times we all find ourselves in. This award is for someone who has gone above and beyond and, in doing so, made a significant, if not vital contribution to a business / organisation / community within the Greater Manchester region.

A few examples might be:
– Adapting a businesses current operations to achieve unmet vital needs or better support customers / communities.
– An Internal hero for colleagues / team members, supporting them during this period.
– Going the extra mile within the Manchester / business community. This could include charitable work, or supporting business / individuals going through furlough / redundancy, or supporting the local community.
