Pride in Trafford ’23: On Till – Sat 20th May ‘23

Wednesday 17 May, Pride in Trafford sashays into Sale for four days of fierce, fabulous fun.

If love is a battlefield, then being Bi is WAR! Or so says Sam Danson, creator of a brand-new commission, Bi-Topia. Directed by the inimitable Rikki Beadle Blair, MBE, it’s a candid, funny, sideways look at sexuality and mental health and runs till – 20 May. (I went to see it last night and I would highly recommend Bi-Topia, powerfully written and beautifully created).

Jane McDonald superfan Daniel Valentine dishes the dirt on what happened when he really met the Queen of the High Seas.  Don’t miss the 5* Edinburgh Festival Fringe hit, Jesus, Jane, Mother and Me on 19 May.

The compact disco will be rolling into Pride on the Plaza on 20 May from 12pm, playing all your favourite camp classics from a giant, glittery disco ball. Request your favourite tune, bop along and then enjoy a performance by Levantes Dance, who will be spilling the (High) Tea With a Twist. Dressed to impress with matching costumes and elaborate headgear, the show is a glorious blend of acrobatics and theatrical high jinx in an explosion of colour and silliness.  There will also be a Mini Pride especially for little ones, featuring craft activities and interactive storytelling. Pride on the Plaza is for all ages, and all the events are free. There’s no need to book.

Two free art exhibitions will be running throughout Pride in Trafford.
EMERGENCY will be an outdoor installation created by local artist Myro Doodles following conversation with young LGBTQ+ people across Trafford, as a response to the rise in hate crime and threats to equal rights across the world.

There will also be an interactive installation accompanying Bi-Topia, where you’ll be able to add in your own thoughts and experiences around building a more inclusive world.

MediaCityUK Church and Community Hub is based in Oasis Academy MediaCityUK on Trafford Road.
They are a partnership between Oasis and the United Reformed Church (URC).  They work with all in their local communities of Ordsall, Langworthy and MediaCity and all of their activities are inclusive, accessible and open to anyone who is interested in attending – they are not limited to the local community or to the school.

Their church is visible in all they do; whether that’s through the Community Food Store, or play group, or their Talk English group or weekly café. But now they are ready to restart MediaCityUK Church, so I’m delighted to tell you that they are re-launching with 2 exciting opportunities:

Holy Hub
This is their new Thursday night group, meeting from 5pm at the Hub, to discuss any questions you may have about faith, church, religion and how to put into practice what is learnt in church and from reading the Bible etc.  Any questions that you want to ask, but have not wanted to do in church, bring them – they can’t guarantee answers, but they can have the conversations.  And the kettle is always on!!

MediaCityUK Church (from Sunday 28 May at 11am)
This is an opportunity to go deeper into what it is they believe and practice with music; prayer and discussion around scripture on how to live out our discipleship in a changing world. With worship and sharing both word and refreshments.

Both are open to all who wish to attend, either Thursday or Sunday or both.

Open Table Service (Safe Sacred Space for LGBTQIA+ Christians and their friends) at Sacred Trinity Church they are pleased to have as their guest preacher Rev’d Grace Thomas. Pride Classical Live: Manchester 2nd June Blackpool 3rd June

The soundtrack to 50 years of love, hope and celebration, Pride Classical fuses anthemic melodies with irresistible rhythms and evocative lyrics. Songs by disco stars, divas and drag queens mark the moments in which we’ve fallen in love, declared our love and learned our love is possible.

Now through new orchestral arrangements, same-sex duets and medleys juxtaposing eulogy and euphoria, this concert celebrates everyone who shares our love, and our pride.

Celebrating the LGBTQ+ Community

At the heart of the concert is a brand-new Pride Anthem, conceived and composed by local community members and performed by the full orchestra to celebrate what Pride means today.

HOME MCR: Drag Addict Tues 18 July – Sat 12 Aug

Tickets are now available for Drag Addict a spleen different new musical full of high stakes, high emotions and even higher heels!

With choreography by former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips, and high energy bangers and catchy tunes by Matt Caine and David Andrew Wilson, this new musical takes to the HOME stage this summer.

It’s summer in Manchester. It’s raining (obviously) and on Canal Street storm clouds of another sort are gathering – Club Fierce is under threat. But Dolly Ravage – godmother of the Gay Village – isn’t going down without a fight. Can she recruit six queens to slay the runway and reinvent the club as the all-new House of Ferocity in time to save it from property developers? Or will the arrival of the mysterious Bobby Carter from America – hiding a secret that could change everything – derail her battle to save the soul of the scene?

Drag Addict combines musical theatre, pop music and drag and creates one fierce, funny, uplifting and heart-warming show!
