Liz Taylor shares expert insights on GB News

Following a landmark summer delivering some of the most talked-about celebrations, including the wedding of actor Jack Shepherd and Hanni Treweek at Manchester Cathedral and a spectacular destination wedding in Lone Star Barbados, Manchester businesswoman Liz Taylor has once again been spotlighted as a leading voice in the wedding industry.
On Sunday 31 August, Taylor, CEO of Taylor Lynn Corporation (TLC) and founder of Liz Taylor Consultancy, was invited to appear live on GB News with Michael Portillo to share her perspective on the future of marriage in Britain, following the release of a new study commissioned by Gretna Green.
The YouGov research revealed a striking decline in marriage rates, with fewer than half of UK adults married today and concerns that the institution could face long-term decline. Cost was identified as a major barrier, with 61% of adults citing weddings as too expensive.
In her GB News interview, Liz offered an alternative perspective:
“Marriages aren’t declining. People still want that bond, that commitment, it’s fundamental. What’s shifting is how they celebrate. Couples today are choosing smaller, more intimate weddings with 50–100 guests, not the traditional 300. It’s not about excess; it’s about spending wisely and designing a day that feels personal and unforgettable.”
Liz also addressed Gretna Green’s finding that a quarter of Brits would support scrapping the statutory 28-day notice period before marriage:
“Most couples take months, if not years, to plan their wedding. Some may want to marry sooner, of course—we recently had a client who got engaged three weeks ago and is planning a Christmas wedding—but generally, couples take the time they need to plan according to finances, family, and location. Weddings should fit the couple’s lives, not the other way around.”
These insights echo a broader industry trend: couples increasingly want meaningful, personalised celebrations that reflect their values, budgets, and priorities. From Michelin-starred dining and bespoke entertainment to eco-conscious touches and tailored guest experiences, TLC has seen record demand in 2025 for events that blend luxury with authenticity.
Reflecting on the summer season, Liz said: “It’s been one of the busiest summers in TLC’s 30-year history, and it’s clear why. Couples aren’t abandoning marriage, they’re redefining it. For us, that means creating experiences that are not only unforgettable but also true to the couple’s story.”
With high-profile events across Manchester, London, and the Caribbean this summer, and Liz’s growing influence as a commentator and consultant, TLC continues to cement its position at the forefront of the international luxury wedding and events market.
