The Reporters’ Academy

The Reporters’ Academy (TRA) is an award winning, not-for-profit youth training organisation based at the heart of MediaCityUK. Established with the aim of raising the aspirations of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, we deliver long term, high quality, behind-the-scenes, media industry training for young people from local communities. Our networks and partners are our greatest asset.

Our young people produce industry standard digital productions, for a variety of organisations: reporting for 17 National Olympic Committees at 12 world championships and Olympic Games, researching and interviewing for BBC presenters and BBC Radio. Films have been commissioned by the NHS for their most high-profile initiatives and campaigns, working with Great Ormond Street Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s Hospitals.

Real life productions are key to our approach, where young people have responsibilities, understand their capabilities and potential and see themselves as part of the industry, working from the inside, not simply observing.

Our network extends to over 75 industry partners and freelancers who regularly work with us. Including, mainstream broadcasters, TV. studio facilities, video production companies, hospitality and events, theatres, education providers, health services and voluntary sector partners.

TRA began life in Manchester, working with Greater Manchester young people from the very beginning.

We help our young people to gain the confidence to make informed decisions about their future.
