The Manchester Photography Collective (MPC) marks its second birthday with Where We Move Together, a free photography exhibition open to the public from Friday 6 February at Marriott Victoria and Albert Manchester.
Set within the hotel’s historic Grade II listed building in the creative St John’s neighbourhood, the exhibition brings together work from photographers across Greater Manchester, exploring how the city moves – through its streets, its people and its shared moments.
Founded as an open and welcoming community for photographers of all levels, the Manchester Photography Collective has grown rapidly over the past two years and now includes over 360 active members. From beginners picking up a camera for the first time to established industry professionals, MPC has become a creative space built on support, learning and collaboration and this exhibition gives a unique perspective on this wonderful city that we call home through the lens of this passionate creative community.
A celebration of movement
Titled Where We Move Together, the exhibition explores movement in all its forms – physical, emotional and collective – across Manchester. The selected works capture everyday life in the city, highlighting the people, places and moments that give Manchester its distinct character.
For this exhibition, MPC received 76 submissions, totalling 228 photographs, making the curation process both challenging and exciting. The final shortlist reflects the diversity of perspectives within the collective, united by a shared passion for storytelling through photography.
Hosting the exhibition, the Marriott Victoria and Albert Manchester provides a fitting backdrop. Located in the heart of the city, the hotel blends historic architecture with contemporary hospitality, including an on-site restaurant and bar which is open to the public daily – making it an ideal setting for a relaxed, social exhibition experience.
Reflecting on the growth of the collective and the upcoming exhibition, Harry, Director of Manchester Photography Collective, said:
“Founded on the simple idea of bringing people together to walk, talk, and make photographs, Manchester Photography Collective has grown into a thriving creative community. Now celebrating two years, MPC is very proud and excited to partner with Marriott V&A to showcase the work of its photographers and the collaborative spirit that defines the collective.”
Kelly, General Manager of the Marriott Victoria & Albert, commented:
“We are proud to host Where We Move Together at the Marriott Victoria & Albert. Our building has always been a place where people, ideas and stories intersect, and this exhibition beautifully reflects that spirit. MPC captures the movement, energy and shared moments that define this city, and we’re delighted to open our doors to the community to celebrate both the collective’s second anniversary and Manchester’s vibrant creative culture.”
