The LTA, the national governing body for tennis in Britain, has appointed leading independent legal practice Brabners to provide legal and tax services to the organisation and its members across Great Britain.

Starting this month, Brabners will provide a free legal and tax advisory helpline to tennis venues, county associations and coaches to add to the comprehensive package of support the LTA delivers to those helping it grow the sport in Britain. As part of the service, which will be available to over 2,600 LTA registered tennis venues, 38 County Associations, nearly 1,000 LTA Licensed Officials and almost 5,000 LTA Accredited Coaches, Brabners will provide advice on governance, contracts, tax, data protection, employment law and property law matters, as well as disciplinary and safeguarding regulations.

As the national governing body for tennis, the LTA is a not-for-profit organisation, investing the money it generates back into the sport. Its vision is to open up tennis in Britain to many more people, and, in partnership with organisations and individuals at a national, regional and local level, it works to govern and grow the sport from grassroots participation through to the professional game.

Lydia Edgar, head of sport at Brabners, said: “We have in-depth experience of the challenges faced by major sporting bodies and how the business of sport continues to boom, so we look forward to bringing our expertise to the table. The uptake of innovation and technology is just one of the ways people will change how they play and coach tennis in the future, so it’s vital to stay one step ahead of the game in terms of regulations in this fast-changing sector.”

Abbie Lench, Head of Clubs, Counties and Volunteering at the LTA said: “We are committed to growing tennis but we can’t do that on our own. The amazing contribution of venues, volunteers, officials and coaches in communities across Britain is vital if we are to achieve our vision and open up the sport to many more people – the provision of this new helpline is a fantastic addition to the package of high quality support we provide to help them do that.  Brabners’ sports team has an impressive reputation within the governance of sport in the UK, and being able to call on their expertise will be a real benefit for our registered venues, County Associations, Licensed Officials and Accredited Coaches.”

Brabners has been a prominent adviser to the sports sector for more than 30 years. During this time the firm has provided cross-discipline advice to some of the UK’s best-known sporting organisations and represents a number of sports governing bodies.
