Business and Employer Support Package

With many coronavirus restrictions eased and as people return to the workplace, we need to encourage sustainable travel and rebuild confidence to help with Greater Manchester’s recovery from the pandemic.

We want to:

  • Announce the launch of a new £800,000 funding package and interactive web portal.
  • Encourage sustainable travel as people begin to travel more and return to the workplace.
  • Raise awareness of the type of interventions that are available for businesses and employers through this support package, and how to access them.

As we come out of the pandemic many businesses are thinking differently about how we work, which means there is an opportunity to embed new behaviours, including travel practices, to support the recovery for our thriving city-region – building back better and greener.

With sustainability, staff well-being and work-life balance a high priority for many employers, embedding a smarter way of commuting can also have tangible health, wellbeing and productivity benefits.

Traffic congestion cost GM businesses £1.3bn annually before coronavirus. If people don’t return to sustainable transport, and opt for a car-lead recovery, that could increase.

A new support package with a total funding pot of £800,000, includes grants to provide assistance with active travel, and enhanced support and guidance through a new virtual portal which includes live chat for travel planning queries, including best options in support of flexible working practices.
