Wythenshawe Park has opened the doors to a new all-ability play area, following a donation of £150,000 from Cheadle-based lender Together via We Love Manchester.

The new play area has been designed as an inclusive space where all children and young people can gather and have fun. It will feature accessible swings, trampolines, a roundabout, a spinning plate and a smaller spinning cup.

The park includes a large spinning swing where up to five children can play together, which features a large cradle seat for users who may struggle to sit up unsupported. For a quieter space to play, the park will also offer a balance trail in the woodland.

The project was funded by property lender Together through We Love Manchester, a charity that supports young people and communities across the city. Their mission is to help ambitious young Mancunians take their next steps and to improve lives in local neighbourhoods.

Wythenshawe Park is Manchester’s second-largest park, attracting over 2.1 million visitors annually. Spanning 260 acres, it’s home to a Grade II listed Tudor Hall, a community farm and shop, riding stables, and a horticultural centre with tropical plants and glasshouses.

The park also offers a wide range of family and sporting facilities, including tennis courts, football pitches, a running track, and a Cycle Hub with mountain bike trails, a pump track, and inclusive skills areas.

Councillor Lee Ann Igbon, Executive Member for Vibrant Neighbourhoods, said: “This new play equipment is a fantastic investment in our children’s wellbeing and in the future of our community. It’s more than just a place to play—it’s a space where families can come together, friendships can grow, and a sense of community can flourish.

“This set of play equipment has been developed in line with our commitment to make outdoor play inclusive for all children. I’m pleased to see our parks becoming vibrant, welcoming places for everyone to experience.”

Paul Moran, head of sustainability at Together said: “We’re proud to have supported this exciting project. From the beginning, we were inspired by the vision of creating a space where all children can play side by side.

“As a Manchester born-and-bred company, helping our local community is at the heart of our ethos, and to be able to play a part in bringing this new play area to life is incredibly rewarding.

“The new play area perfectly complements recent efforts to make Wythenshawe Park more inclusive, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact on the local community and visitors from further afield alike.”

The all-ability play area is now open to all visitors.
