Manchester Basketball’s men’s and women’s team both qualified for the Super League Basketball Cup Finals, held in Manchester at the AO Arena on Sunday 22nd March.
In just the new franchises’ second season, the men’s team overcame Surrey 89ers over two legs, an 87-101 victory in Guildford and a 99-92 win at home on Sunday. The victory sets up a major final with London Lions, who defeated Cheshire Phoenix in the other semi final.
“It’s an incredible achievement for the club in such a short space of time,” commented General Manager Dominique Allen.
“The chance of playing in a final in our own city made it a priority for us at the start of the season. To have both teams there is a testament to all the players, staff, volunteers and all the Manchester fans who have supported us all the way.”
The women’s team defeated Oaklands Wolves 78-72 to book their ticket to the final with a stunning performance at NBPC, they will face Sheffield Hatters.
The finals will hold special significance for the likes of Manchester natives Kaiyem Cleary, Demi Babalola and Irene Oboavwoduo who have come through the junior pathways in city to represent the professional side on the highest level.
