Julie Mogan, Regional Director of International Law, Excello Law

Introduce yourself:

Hello, I am Julie, Regional Director of International law firm Excello law. I’m also a member of the Council at Manchester Law Society.I have been a corporate lawyer for more years than I can remember and started my career in the 80s in Manchester with the boutique law firm Chaffe Street who subsequently became part of Brabners. My role at Excello (where I have been for over a decade) also involves business development, helping to grow our business across the region and recruiting lawyers for all three of our North West offices in Manchester Liverpool and Chester.

Career Highlight:

In the last few years, I have been delighted to receive personal awards for  “legal personality “”and “legal entrepreneur ” but the main highlight has to be being during my early 30s, becoming the  first female equity partner in a 150 year old traditional law firm . Still feels groundbreaking to this day.

Name three words that describe your personality:

I decided to ask my youngest son to answer this one and he said  funny ,caring and bossy. I prefer “driven “to  “bossy”, but will happily accept  all three!

What’s the best thing about pro-manchester?

The tailored events and continual provision of high value networking opportunities. The Pro Manchester team have also taken time to understand our desire to expand our Manchester office and  have  engaged with us around that vision. The team  are wonderful and very approachable too.

What are your priorities for 2025?

For what remains of 2025 my priority is to continue to grow the team in Manchester. We are already attracting partner level lawyers from some of the large Manchester law firms and  hopefully the expansion continues for the rest of the year , into 2026 and beyond ,

What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester now?

The city is so vibrant with  plenty of positive  stuff  happening and in the pipeline ,so it is hard to choose just one.  I am very much  in favour of the proposed high speed rail link between Manchester and Liverpool ,due to the increased connectivity and economic opportunities it will present  between these two wonderful Northern cities.

Favourite meeting place in Manchester:

Also a difficult one to narrow down as there are so many great places to meet up. Our Manchester office in Spinningfields has a great vibe  for meetings. I also love 20 Stories for the views and the cocktails!
