17th March 2022, 11:37 am

Tune in to The New Talent Show on Unity Radio on Thursday from 10am til 1pm, catch our Learners broadcast their first live radio show to achieve the accreditation in our Radio Production course.

Learners will then be invited to host their very own live radio show on the North of England’s #1 youth music platform every Thursday 10am till 1pm for a further 6 weeks, as part of a unique training provision.North West Media presents Unity Radio’s New Talent Academy – Real Life Learning  A vocational education, training and pre-employment provision for young people and adults, providing accredited creative media courses followed by training at Unity Radio – The Real Sound of the City Based in MediaCityUK at Host, which is also home of a larger tech-hub named Skills City, providing courses in technology and other related Education, Training and Employment (EET) programs.  The New Talent Academy is currently providing exclusive, accredited Creative Media courses for Trafford and Manchester residents in MediaCityUK Listen to one of our students give their opinion on our coursehttps://youtu.be/KYDYv2rbLQQJames Bayat, the New Talent Academy’s Education Coordinator, explains: “We wanted to offer a provision that is unique in Greater Manchester; providing accredited learning in a living, breathing workplace, creating first-hand experience in abundance, meaning learners are already closer to further education, training and employment. We aim to develop the necessary skills to give them the confidence to keep moving forward.” “Some of the main barriers young people face, such as travel and social anxiety, can be overcome by being in familiar environments. Music, Media and creative opportunities offer the psychological safety for young people to go on and develop new positive relationships with like minded people. Unity Radio has a rich 20-year history; starting life as a pirate radio station meaning it has a credible, grass roots and authentic reputation amongst the community. This means the barriers to engagement can often be lower for many learners as they feel comfortable in finding out more about what might be possible.” Below is a quote from a social worker operating in the Greater Manchester area: “One of the young people I am working with has completed three full weeks of sessions with the Unity Radio project. Having initially been quite sceptical, a visit to see the team at Unity was all it took to encourage them to take part. Working with this course has inspired the young person to think big about things that they can achieve in their future. It has given them newfound confidence that I have not seen in over 18 months of working with them, they are finally proud of achieving something! I cannot recommend this course enough. If you can help get the foot in the door, the Unity team will take it from there and provide encouragement and inspiration, giving the young person respect and opportunities that they just can’t get elsewhere.” More input from our Education Coordinator James Bayat: “One of the main benefits of New Talent Academy is our ability to attract industry speakers and other local inspirational figures who come and talk to our learners about subjects like work ethic and skill development while inspiring them to achieve what perhaps they don’t think they are capable of before coming to the Academy.” Last week, ahead of the students radio show airing tomorrow, local Boxer Jimmy Kelly, who recently won a world title fight in Florida, very kindly came down to give his words of encouragement to learners ahead of their live radio show in an attempt to appease their understandable nerves. Here is what the WBO Champ had to say: “The New Talent Academy is a fantastic opportunity for young people to come to a place that provides both learning of new skills and a source of confidence for young people.”
