Member Spotlight: Laura McMorland, Partner of Corporate Team, Bermans

10th July 2026, 4:23 pm

Introduce yourself

Hi, my name is Laura McMorland and I’m a Manchester-based partner in the corporate team at Bermans, a full-service commercial law firm.  I am also a member of pro-manchester’s corporate finance committee.

I have worked in the corporate finance legal sector since 2006, advising a mixture of clients from SMEs, large multinational companies, financial institutions, individual shareholders and private equity funds.

Career highlight

From a personal perspective, qualifying as a solicitor remains my overall career highlight.  It represented the culmination of years of hard work and resilience.  Qualifying laid the foundation for my progression and development.

From a deal perspective, advising Acteon Group on KKR’s acquisition of a majority stake remains another highlight. The transaction represented the culmination of months of intensive work and reinforced the importance of strong teamwork in delivering complex deals.

Name three words that describe your personality

Scottish (covers a multitude of excellent personality traits!), conscientious and astute

What’s the best thing about pro-manchester?

As a relative newcomer to the Manchester business community, pro-manchester has provided me with a great base for networking and real business development opportunities.  The network at pro-manchester is very collaborative and well-connected, and is an effective way to become embedded in the local business community.

Another key benefit of membership is the ability to regularly invite our clients to events as our guests, and in July we are proud to be hosting our own member event in partnership with EHE Venture Studio.

What are your priorities for 2026?

To continue to be actively involved with the pro-manchester CF committee, helping to shape its future direction and engagement with members and the wider regional deal community

To continue to build client relationships, particularly by continuing to provide an excellent commercial service

To continue to grow my profile in the Manchester business community

To contribute to the continued growth of Bermans by developing new business opportunities, strengthening key relationships and supporting the firm’s strategic objectives

To continue my streak learning French on Duolingo!

What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?

Aside from potential key political movements….  Manchester continues to benefit from significant investment and regeneration activity, making it a very exciting place to be. The ongoing city centre transformation projects and regeneration areas are all important, attracting investment and driving opportunities for businesses (including Bermans) across the North West.

Favourite meeting place in Manchester

Haunt (for catch-ups, sober or otherwise), Dishoom (for breakfast) or Gail’s (for sheer proximity to my office).

Are there any particular types of businesses that you would like to meet?

I’m particularly interested in meeting owner-managed and growing businesses, as well as key referrers such as corporate finance advisers, accountants and lenders.
