  1. Introduce yourself
I’m Paul Winterburn, a seasoned professional with over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry. Throughout my career, I have held various key roles, including Account Executive, Risk Manager, Claims Manager, and Account Director. I am also a Certified Member of the Institute of Risk Management. My extensive experience has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the industry, having worked with a diverse range of clients and managed a wide array of complex risks.
  2. Career highlight
During the 1996 Manchester bombing, I had numerous clients based in the City Centre, which significantly expanded my knowledge and expertise. In the aftermath, I spent the following 6 to 12 months assisting clients in recovering and resuming their operations. The insights gained during this challenging period continue to shape my daily work, from risk management, claims to identifying gaps in coverage for clients.
  3. Name three words that describe your personality
    Driven, Proactive and Personable:
I’m driven by a commitment to excellence, I approach each challenge with a strong sense of purpose and determination. My proactive nature allows me to stay ahead of potential issues, ensuring that solutions are implemented before problems arise. I take pride in building meaningful relationships with clients, being personable and approachable in all interactions. This blend of drive, initiative, and interpersonal skills has not only helped me navigate complex situations but also allowed me to consistently deliver tailored, client-focused solutions while maintaining a positive and collaborative work environment.
  4. What’s the best thing about pro-manchester
The best thing about Pro-Manchester is the unique opportunity it provides to make new, meaningful connections that you might not have otherwise encountered. It brings together a diverse network of professionals from various industries, creating an environment where you can build relationships that go beyond typical business interactions. These connections often lead to valuable insights, collaborations, and partnerships that can significantly enhance both personal and professional growth. The inclusive and dynamic atmosphere encourages genuine networking, fostering long-lasting relationships that have the potential to create real impact within the Manchester business community.
  5. What are your priorities for 2025
My priorities for 2025 include strengthening and maintaining existing relationships, expanding my network within Pro-Manchester by engaging with new members, and actively promoting the services offered by PHP to support clients in managing their risks and securing the right coverage for their needs.
  6. What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?

Key developments in Manchester at the moment include the revitalization of underdeveloped areas, the provision of housing solutions for students transitioning from college or university, with further strategic planning to update the public transport system to improve connectivity across the city.

  1. Favourite meeting place in Manchester

Given that I have several clients based in the Northern Quarter, I typically arrange breakfast meetings at Ancoats Coffee or The Waterside Café.

  1. Are their any particular types of businesses that you would like to meet

I would particularly value the opportunity to meet with developers, property managers, and property owners. These businesses often face unique risks, and I believe my experience in risk management and insurance can provide valuable support in addressing their specific needs and challenges.
