Introduce yourself

I’m Scott, a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney and Senior Associate at Wilson Gunn, Manchester’s long-established firm of patent and trade mark attorneys. I work with clients in the chemical, medical and pharmaceutical sectors, helping them identify, protect and commercialise their intellectual property, primarily through securing commercially focused patents for innovative inventions.

Career highlight

It is always a highlight working with innovative businesses and seeing how initial ideas move from the drawing board to real-world products. One memorable project involved drafting a patent application for a drone integrated with a vehicle, which later featured in automotive and industry online publications.

What’s the best thing about pro-manchester?

The standout aspect of Pro-Manchester is the sense of community. It’s a welcoming network that makes it easy to connect with people from different sectors, exchange ideas and build relationships beyond your immediate profession. And, of course, the events are always made even better by the great food and drinks on offer!

What are your priorities for 2026?

My main priorities professionally are connecting with as many people as possible, offering advice where I can, and supporting the development of new ideas as Manchester continues to grow and innovate.

What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?

As someone local to the Greater Manchester area, it’s exciting to see the city’s ongoing investment in innovation, infrastructure and skills, and how this is driving growth across the wider region. As a lifelong Manchester United fan, here’s hoping we also see a resurgence in the team’s success next season under a new manager!

Favourite meeting place in Manchester

I don’t have a specific favourite meeting place, but I often head into Manchester with my wife to enjoy shows or try new restaurants. We particularly enjoy the bao buns at Suki Suki Street Food & Bar!

Are there any particular types of businesses that you would like to meet?

I’m particularly interested in connecting with chemical, medical, pharmaceutical and life sciences businesses that are developing new products or processes. This includes both established companies looking to strengthen their existing patent portfolios and start-ups building a strategy from the ground up. I’m also always keen to meet other professionals, such as solicitors, accountants, corporate finance advisers and investors , who work with innovative clients and might benefit from specialist IP support.
