Altrincham, Greater Manchester, 11th December 2025 – Myerson has achieved a settlement for its client, Inicio Group Ltd, in a two-year trademark infringement dispute concerning the use of the sign “INICIO”. Robert Brothers and Olivia O’Neil represented Inicio Group Ltd in the trademark infringement action, working alongside Jamie Muir Wood of Hogarth Chambers.
Inicio Group Ltd is a provider of support services to children, young people, and families across the United Kingdom. In 2022, the company secured registration of the trademark “INICIO” in Class 41 for “education and training relating to preparation for employment, further education, and tenancy management,” in order to protect its brand.
The Defendant, an educational trust, had been using the sign “INICIO” within its trading name. Inicio Group Ltd issued proceedings alleging trademark infringement and passing off. The Defendant denied the allegations and advanced a counterclaim asserting that the trademark had been registered in bad faith, contending that the scope of services covered was “too broad.” Inicio Group Ltd robustly defended its position, maintaining that its trademark was validly registered and that the Defendant had used the sign in relation to services identical or similar to those for which the mark is protected. The matter had been listed for trial in December in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court. However, prior to trial, the parties reached a resolution at a mediation.
Robert Brothers, Senior Associate at Myerson, commented: “We are pleased to have secured a resolution for Inicio Group Ltd. This matter highlights the importance of taking early steps to protect and enforce brand rights, particularly where organisations operate in similar or closely related sectors. Securing appropriate trademark protection remains a vital part of safeguarding the strength and value of a business’s brand.”
Myerson continues to support clients across the UK and internationally in complex intellectual property disputes, offering strategic, commercially focused advice to protect and enhance brand assets.
