pro-manchester EDI Committee’s Social Mobility Group

3rd November 2021, 1:54 pm

Complex barriers to social mobility still exist in Britain today and a class pay gap exists in elite occupations. Most organisations want to create an inclusive environment that attracts and retains talent from diverse backgrounds. [Class / social mobility] is an important, but often overlooked strand of diversity and inclusion.

From accent bias to imposter syndrome, many barriers can and do prevent those from lower socio-economic backgrounds from accessing career opportunities.

The pro-manchester Social Mobility Group is aiming to create awareness and have an impact in supporting pro-manchester members to remove barriers to social mobility. As a starting point the group would like your help with the following:

  1.     Establish what initiatives are already taking place across pro-manchester member organisations and where gaps in focus and support may exist – we would really appreciate if you could complete this short survey to help establish the range and scale of activities that are already taking place to tackle social mobility in our employment community.
  2.     Develop a platform for collaboration, education and access to solutions, across pro-manchester organisations, to support those who need it most to overcome barriers to social mobility.
  3.     Attract new members from a wider range of pro-manchester member organisations – if you or any of your colleagues would be interested in joining the committee, please get in touch with Shaun Gibb [email protected]

Survey

With regards to the groups’ first aim, we’d be grateful if we could encourage as many pro-manchester member organisations as possible to complete a survey to help establish what initiatives already exist focusing on social mobility. It should take no more than 3 minutes to complete.
