Manchester-based creative organisation QuAC (Queer Art Community) has opened a dedicated creative workspace after securing more than £10,000 in Start Up Loans funding through GC Business Finance (GCBF).
Founded by Marcus Stones, QuAC was established to create opportunities for artists, performers and creatives from underrepresented backgrounds. Having built a growing network through events and creative projects, Marcus identified the need for an affordable, accessible physical space where creatives could collaborate, develop their work and connect with wider audiences.
The new workspace has been designed to support a wide range of creative disciplines, offering flexible facilities including podcast recording booths, space for aerial performers, craft workshops and adaptable event areas. Run by QuAC, the hub provides an inclusive alternative to more traditional creative spaces.
The Start Up Loans funding from GCBF enabled Marcus to secure and develop the premises, officially launch the workspace, invest in marketing and access mentoring support during a key stage of growth. The space is already welcoming teachers, tutors and creatives ahead of its official launch event this month.
In addition to providing workspaces, QuAC plans to host regular exhibitions, performances and community events, creating opportunities for artists and performers to showcase their work while encouraging new talent to get involved.
Looking ahead, Marcus hopes to expand the organisation’s educational offering, with ambitions to develop an academy focused on mentoring young people, including children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

I wanted to create a welcoming environment where artists and performers can develop their skills, collaborate with others and showcase their work.

The funding has enabled us to create a permanent home for QuAC and provide opportunities for creatives who may not always have access to traditional spaces. We want this to be somewhere people can learn, collaborate, perform and feel genuinely welcomed.”
