TfGM Active Travel Community Access Grants

27th June 2023, 1:51 pm

In recent years, Greater Manchester has committed itself to building a world-class walking, wheeling and cycling network, a commitment that was restated at the launch of the new Greater Manchester Strategy in March 2022. The city-region’s vision and plan for Active Travel is impressive and the next phase is to ensure active travel is now completely embedded into a region-wide, London-style transport system.

Active Travel Commissioner, Dame Sarah Storey, has unveiled a refreshed active travel mission for Greater Manchester focusing on accessibility, behaviour change and clear communications which seeks to ensure the benefits and enjoyment of walking, wheeling and cycling are visible and available to all.

TfGM are pleased to announce a new £535k grants programme, funded through the DfT and Active Travel England Capability and Ambition Fund, which will support the principals and aims of GM’s refreshed active travel mission.

This grant programme will help local businesses and organisations achieve a culture-shift on operational and business travel and logistics to reduce lorry and van travel in urban areas, to expand and diversify the range and availability of cycles available to the community to increase the opportunity for older and disabled people to cycle and provide opportunities for communities to implement solutions that address specific needs within their local area.

Grants are available to Greater Manchester small businesses, VCS and community organisations, education providers and NHS Healthcare providers and will support the purchase of cargo and adaptive cycle solutions and fund small community projects which facilitate cycling and walking.
