Uk firms Latitude Law and Slater Heelis to join women in migration panel at Vienna’s women in the law conference

8th September 2025, 2:41 pm

Two UK-based law firms, Latitude Law and Slater Heelis, will represent the UK legal sector at this year’s Women in the Law Conference — one of Europe’s foremost gatherings on gender and the legal profession — which takes place in Vienna between 11th – 13th September.

Latitude Law and Slater Heelis will join the line-up contributing to the panel Women in Migration: Legal Challenges and Pathways to Protection. Their inclusion highlights the UK’s ongoing contribution to global discussions on human rights, gender, and migration.

The session will explore the challenges migrant women face worldwide, from gender-based violence and labour exploitation to access to healthcare and the impact of restrictive policies. With women’s rights increasingly under pressure, the panel will examine both international and local solutions to strengthen legal safeguards.

Representing the two firms are Gary McIndoe, Managing Partner at Latitude Law, and Dorota Beange, Consultant Solicitor at Slater Heelis.

Gary said: “As a specialist immigration lawyer, I’ve worked with many women seeking safety in the UK who have faced violence, exploitation, or persecution. Too often, their experiences are among the hardest to evidence in legal systems. This panel is a chance to discuss reforms that ensure migrant women are not only protected on paper but supported with compassion in practice.”

Dorota added: “For women to be empowered and to have freedom of choice, they need to fully understand their legal rights. My focus is always on ensuring those rights are recognised and upheld, even in the most complex cross-border cases.”

With offices in Manchester, London and Brussels, Latitude Law is one of the UK’s leading boutique immigration firms, recognised in The Times Best Law Firms 2025 and recommended by Chambers & Partners and  Legal 500.

Slater Heelis, a full-service law firm with a long-standing reputation in family, employment and commercial law, is ranked by Legal 500 and The Times Best Law Firms 2025 and known for its strong advocacy in international family matters, including child abduction and cross-border disputes.

By joining this global conversation, both firms reaffirm their commitment to advancing equality, diversity, and human rights in the legal profession and beyond.
