Sarah Walton, Managing Partner at law firm Weightmans, has reflected on the importance of mentorship, collaboration and widening opportunities for women across the legal profession to mark International Women’s Day.

Commenting on this year’s theme, Give To Gain, Walton said the message resonates strongly with her own career journey and the support she received from colleagues and mentors along the way.

Walton, who recently completed her first year as the firm’s first female Managing Partner, highlighted the role of advocacy and encouragement in helping women progress into leadership roles within the legal sector.

She said:

“This year’s International Women’s Day theme, Give To Gain, resonates deeply with me. My journey at Weightmans has been shaped by the encouragement, sponsorship and generosity of mentors and colleagues who were willing to advocate, challenge and champion me along the way.

“As I complete my first year as the firm’s first female Managing Partner, I feel a strong sense of responsibility – not only to celebrate the power of collaboration, but to widen pathways and create momentum for others. Positive change in the legal sector is already taking place, and I am confident that many more exceptional women will go on to become Managing Partners at Weightmans in the years ahead. Together, we can and must ensure women from all backgrounds are supported to thrive and to see what’s possible.”

Weightmans continues to focus on initiatives that support inclusion, progression and leadership opportunities across the firm as part of its wider commitment to building a more diverse and representative legal profession.
