Pride in Practice LGBTQ+ Patient Survey Report launch

Join Pride in Practice for a first look at the results of the Patient Experience Survey 2021!
This year, over 960 LGBTQ+ individuals contacted Pride in Practice to share their primary care experiences. The results make for illuminating reading and will be used to inform data-driven approaches to developing LGBTQ+ inclusion in primary care over the coming year. All are warmly invited to them to celebrate the launch at LGBT Foundation’s new home! This event will be of particular interest to those working in LGBTQ+ health, primary care professionals, and LGBTQ+ community members.
The Skelton Charity 2022
The Skelton Charity has approx. £100,000 in 2022 for grants to registered charities in Lancashire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside.
Modest grants, usually for between £500 and £3,000 may be awarded:
– normally only to registered charities
– to charities operating within the eligible geographical boundaries
– for one-off expenditure
– for projects or capital expenditure (this could include sessional costs and volunteer costs).
– to charities focussed on good causes
The Trustees are also willing to consider particular needs caused by the Covid19 pandemic and by adapting to new ways of working.
Grants are not made to individuals.
Grants are not generally made for salaries or other recurring costs.
Applications from charities in successive years are not viewed favourably.
The Trustees do not usually fund large building appeals or revenue expenditure.
The grant programme is open for applications between until 13th May 2022. Applications will be considered at the Trustees’ meeting at the end of June.
Completed applications must be received before 5pm on Friday 13 May 2022.

Bury Pride: Sat 30th April 2022
After a very difficult couple of years for everyone, Bury Pride has a new location for 2022. They still have all the stalls, entertainment, funfair and of course thier famous Walking Rainbow Parade, to celebrate diversity and our communities in such a great Town on Saturday 30th April at the Drill Hall, Bury.
This year, they have also launched their new Bury Pride Store:
Here you can book your stalls, full- and half-page adverts in their Pride Magazine as well as book advertising space and sponsorship.
If you are a community group or organisation, you can also book your stall and register yourselves for the parade, which they plan to be louder and prouder than ever.

Pride in Trafford: Tue 17 – Sat 21 May 2022
Trafford’s five day annual exploration and celebration of LGBTQ+ arts is back for 2022. Now in its third year, Pride in Trafford brings together an exciting and diverse range of performers and performances, from comedy and cabaret, storytelling and solo shows to photography and physical theatre. All events take place in venues and spaces around the borough, including leading arts venue, Waterside.
Two incredible exhibitions features in this year’s Pride in Trafford: award-winning photographer Allie Crewe’s moving and poignant Your Own Light – featuring a series of striking portraits of trans/non-binary subjects; and Interstice a digital display of artist Paul Scott Bullen’s experience of homophobic resistance.
Live cabaret and comedy comes from musical theatre diva Vivienne de Vil, as well as a fabulous evening of alternative comedy with MC Jonathan Mayor, comic and improviser Kate McCabe; stand-up, drag queen and live streamer Red Redmond and acclaimed stand-up Bethany Black.
Theatre and dance enthusiasts will enjoy Rowena Gander’s experimental, thought-provoking new work Barely Visible which uses contemporary pole dance fusion; as well as Making Waves: Queer Edition – an evening celebrating new work by emerging LGBTQ+ artists and theatre makers around Greater Manchester.
Free events for younger audiences include a special collaborative event between Gorse Hill Studios and Rainbow Reflections; outdoor pop-up performance Wildflower and fun family activities on Waterside Plaza; as well as a special Meet the Author event with Emmy Clarke, writer of Vampire Hunter Jess – a funny and heart-warming short story for children.
‘There is a real sense of ‘coming together’ weaved through the themes, the artists and the collaborators involved in this year’s programme. Pride Sports Conference – Saturday, 23 April 2022 at 10:00
A unique One-Day Conference bringing together the LGBTQ+ sport & physical activity sector.
About this event:
Bringing together LGBTQ+ networks of National Governing Bodies, LGBTQ+ sport and physical activity groups and those interested in developing their own NGB networks and clubs, this day will provide unique networking and learning opportunities for participants. Plenaries, clinics, workshops and social sessions throughout the day should mean there’s something for everyone engaged in LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport.
Join The Sunday Boys in the incredible surrounds of Bury Parish Church, this April as they host an evening of folk music, choral singing and celebration in two parts. Saturday 23rd April, 7pm
This exploration of folk music will look at folk through a queer lens and sees The Sunday Boys collaborating with folk singer songwriter Katy Rose Bennett to uncover traditional and contemporary folk songs of “coming together”. Expect some original pieces from Bennett, beautifully brought to life by The Sunday Boys.
In the second half of the evening, The Sunday Boys will revisit some toe-tapping classics as well as some new numbers in this special celebration opening a week-long celebration of Bury Pride. Expect hits from the likes of The Spice Girls, Kate Bush and Adele.
The Sunday Boys was formed by Michael Betteridge in January 2016 to give Manchester an inclusive LGBTQ+ choir for low voice singers (tenor / baritone / bass) in the city to learn to sing great music, perform, and make friends. With a keen focus on commissioning new work, the choir has grown from a small group of individuals to a group of over sixty strong.
They engage and support local, queer artists and our ongoing mission is to bring together a community of members, artists and supporters performing music with meaning.
This exciting performance is supported by Arts Council England, The Met, Bury Pride, LGBTQ+ Greater Manchester Cultural Network and English Folk Expo.

Jez Dolan and David Martin working as Initiative Arts are working with the National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver Legacy of ’67. In this project they want to capture the stories of LGBTQ+ people who were young adults in the ‘60s and ‘70s. In 1967 the law in England and Wales changed to partially decriminalise homosexual acts between men. This led to a major change for some people and had no effect at all on others. If you were a young adult then, did this affect your life – if it did, how?
They’re interested in talking to men, women and trans people who were around at the time. Your stories will be recorded for posterity in Archives+ at Manchester Libraries and will be the subject matter for a specially commissioned play, an exhibition, and a walking tour of the city.
They also want to recruit and train a team of volunteers to capture these stories of before and after the Sexual Offences Act of 1967, recording the social and historical impact of this legislation. They will be offering training in oral history techniques towards the end of April.

As part of the Greater Manchester LGBTQ+ Arts and Culture Network, Oldham Coliseum were a recipient of the Network’s Progress Bursary supporting LGBTQ+ projects across the region. For their project they partnered up with the Proud Trust’s ‘Youth Out in Oldham’ group to support an artist in the development of their own craft, to deliver six creative sessions for the group.
‘Youth Out in Oldham’ is a youth group based in Oldham that supports young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people, or those questioning their gender or sexuality aged between 13-19. Having met with the group online, it became clear that many members were interested in the creation of music, specifically Metal music, as an artform they could see themselves pursuing. With this in mind,they appointed musician Will Walton as the recipient of the Bursary.
After a few thinking and jamming sessions with Will and Coliseum staff, the young people decided to write a pirate metal song, cherishing the opportunity to talk about the things that they’re passionate about as young LGBT+ people. The song has now grown into an album concept, with another song written waiting to be recorded, and album art in the works.
They have absolutely loved working on The Progress Bursary over the past few months. What has been most impressive to them at the Coliseum is the new ways in which this project has helped them work with young people, from drama to different forms of music.
Thanks go out to the staff at The Proud Trust, the LGBT Foundation, Will Walton, and especially the wonderful young people who contributed to creating the songs.

Manchester City Council and Manchester Health Care Commissioning have commissioned Forever Consulting to find out what support voluntary and community groups and social enterprises in Manchester need to deliver their work and achieve their goals. We’ve developed a short survey that explores what your organisation would like support with, and how you would like to receive it. It will take less than 10 minutes to complete, and the survey closes at 8am on Monday 25th April, so make sure you’ve had your say by then! We want to hear from all types of groups operating in Manchester – large and small, new and old – so please share this survey with others so they can have their say too!

Bolton Deaf Society, Manchester Deaf Centre and Walthew House in Stockport are exploring the needs of people who are Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing, and how the centres can best help. Your views will help them shape the type of services they provide and how they are delivered. Pub Pride 2022 returns on Friday May 27th at pubs, bars and venues across the UK. Registration is now open and closes on April 4th.
Launched in 2021, Pub Pride backs up the Ask For Clive campaign by empowering pubs to celebrate Pride with their local LGBTQ+ community, and show their commitment to inclusivity.
This year’s event will be on Friday May 27th, with partners encouraged to keep flags and bunting up for all of Pride Month.
They’ll be showcasing some of the events, activities and partnerships already confirmed for Pub Pride 2022 during registration period and up to the event. Some fab venues are already in, and they’ll have live music, cabaret, karaoke, fundraisers, even film screenings across the UK. It’s up to you. Signage, support and a welcome space is enough.
Their product range has grown for this year, now with Badges and t-shirts also available for pubs to sell to visitors. All they ask is a 10% donation to Ask For Clive.
Once registered, they’ll send you digital assets, add you to the list of host venues and promote on Social Media.
They’ll have everything from West End pubs to rural inns in the Shetlands. It’s important to them that Pub Pride comes to the people and is a localised event! They had over 200 venues commit in 2021, and the event was mid-pandemic. They aim to get into 1k+ venues in 2022. Monies raised go directly back into Ask For Clive, and they’ll share these 50/50 with local Pride organisations.

University of Birmingham project LOASCA: Lgbtq+ Older Adult Social Care Assessment study.
They’re seeking older LGBTQ+ people to fill two kinds of paid roles in the project, experts by experience (people who advise the researchers based on their lived experience) and co-researchers (people involved directly in the research). They are particularly seeking people who are bisexual, trans and/or intersectionally marginalised, such as BAME LGBTQ+ people and LBTQ+ women.
Discrimination Project:
Generation Rent is working with the LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity akt to research discrimination in the private rental sector. If you are a private renter, regardless of your gender identity or sexuality, it would greatly help our research if you can answer this survey about your experiences.
Some of the questions focus on your sexuality and gender identity as well as ethnicity, mental and physical health and your benefits status.
