Supporting St Ann’s Hospice

Wednesday, 1st October 2025

Around the time of the Made in Manchester Awards 2024, the vision for the new St Ann’s Hospice was still just that – a vision. The ground had not yet been broken, and the future site remained untouched.

As finalists and guests gathered to celebrate Manchester’s rising stars, there was a deeper purpose woven into the evening: raising vital funds for a cause that touches so many lives across Greater Manchester. St Ann’s Hospice, with its legacy of compassionate care, was preparing for a transformational journey – and we were proud to be part of it.

Nick Shepherd, former chair of pro-manchester’s future-pro committee, selected St Ann’s Hospice as charity partner for the MiMA’s last year. We raised £5795.99 as we came together to contribute towards their ‘Build it Together’ campaign, to raise £2m towards their new state-of-the-art hospice.

St Ann’s Hospice was chosen due to a personal affiliation that Nick held towards the charity. Having cared for his auntie in her final days back in 2018, Nick saw first-hand the care and compassion that hospices can provide for individuals from all backgrounds.

Now over 18 months on, the team at St Ann’s Hospice are well on their way to completing their new home, aiming to open their new building in early 2026. The money that was raised together for MiMA ’24 was more than just fundraising – it helped to lay the foundations for a hospice that will serve generations to come.

As St Ann’s Hospice enters a new, modern era, they will transform into Moya Cole Hospice on 1st October to honour its founder, Dr. Moya Cole. The name change reflects the dedication of hospice pioneers and the legacy of the organization, which was co-founded by Moya Cole in 1971, following years of tireless campaigning.

Nick Shepherd, Former chair of future-pro said:

“I felt honoured to select St Ann’s Hospice as charity partner for MiMA ’24. As I shared my own personal connection to the hospice on the evening, I was incredibly proud that those who attended on the evening rallied behind the cause and raised record-breaking numbers. Whilst back then, we were raising funds towards a vision, I felt humbled to return to St Ann’s Hospice and see their vision come to life, knowing the part which we all played to help. From me personally, a massive thank you everybody who contributed on the night.”

Anne-Marie Wynne, Head of Fundraising and Capital Campaign at St Ann’s Hospice said:
“We’re so grateful to Nick and everyone who supported us through the Made in Manchester Awards. The funds raised are helping us get ever closer to completing our new hospice, which will provide world-class care for people across Greater Manchester for generations to come. Every donation, large or small, makes a real difference – and we couldn’t do it without the support of our community. There are still fantastic opportunities for businesses to get involved too: by donating or fundraising £1,000, they can have their name proudly displayed on the wall of the new hospice, and we also have sponsorship opportunities available for bedrooms within the new build.”

St Ann’s Hospice are currently less than £100,000 off their £2m target for their ‘Build it Together’ appeal and they’re encouraging those who can to support them in helping across the finish line.
