Highlights:

• On 20 November, ICAEW will publish the results of the ICAEW Q4 Business Confidence Monitor, this will be followed by a live webinar on Friday 3 December with the results around the theme of “2022 boom or bust” we will be joined by key business stakeholders to debate the findings and share insight. Panellists include Emma Degg (Chief Executive, North West Business Leadership Team), Steve Bennett (Regional Chair, IOD) and more. • Pre-Spending Review departmental spending: this chart looks at the core government departmental resource budgets that are central to the Spending Review.
• UK public sector employment: this chart is on public sector employment, the cost of which is one of the largest components of the Spending Review.
• ICAEW Podcasts: Autumn Budget and Spending Review: turbocharge or temperance: in this special edition of the Insights podcast, we’re joined by experts from across ICAEW’s tax and public sector team to preview the government’s Autumn Budget and Spending Review 2021.
• ICAEW Podcasts: Prizing the public pound: with increasing pressure on public services and net-zero targets to be met, it’s critical that any public spending delivers value to the taxpayer. The Fabian Society outlines its vision in its recent pamphlet.

Climate

• The role the accountancy profession must play in reaching Net 0: Andrew Griffith FCA, MP is the UK’s Net Zero Business Champion. He discusses the core role the profession has to play in helping all of us reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 or sooner. He explains how it won’t happen without the support of chartered accountants.
• Why chartered accountants must become climate activists: We all have a part to play in solving this crisis; chartered accountants have a particularly important one.
• Sustainability: changing behaviours through changing priorities: Embedding sustainability into a business – even in a fledgling way – is, of course, to be celebrated. But that is no longer enough.
• The path to Net 0: all eyes have been on COP26 as the world’s leaders seek to set a course to carbon emissions over the next quarter of a century or so. Our chart highlights what it will take for the UK to do its part of delivering net zero by 2050.

• The ICAEW Business Advice Service (BAS): the service provides a free initial consultation for any small or medium sized business with one of over 3,000 registered chartered accountancy firms across the UK. The consultation typically lasts for one hour and is without any obligation. Businesses can use this consultation to seek information on a wide range of topics including business finance, cash flow management, growth strategy, and restructuring/insolvency. The service also offers support for the creation and growth of new businesses emerging for the future.
• ICAEW A-Z Communities offer information, insights and networking opportunities on a range of industry sectors, professional specialisms and various career stages. Most Communities are free to join after simply creating an account on our website.
