Join us for our annual Corporate Finance Lunch on Thursday 16th February 2023. We'll hear from two panels of experts from the corporate finance world as they review the last twelve months of deals in the North West. There will be commentary and analysis from those in the know, plus insight into the market for the year ahead.

A great networking opportunity with over 250 people from corporate finance, private equity and financial and professional services. The event will be held at a Manchester venue with drinks reception and a delicious 2 course lunch included in the price.

About the Speakers:

Rebecca Rennison Corporate Finance Partner - EY

Rebecca is a partner at EY in Manchester focused on Corporate Finance M&A. She has over 20 years’ experience helping shareholders unlock value by completing transformational transactions with private equity and global strategic trade. Born in Manchester, she spent 15 years with a North American investment bank whilst living in Vancouver, Canada. Rebecca is very passionate about DE&I and actively shares her experiences including her Work Life Harmony Handguide and Confidence Boosting Alphabet. She chairs EY’s Corporate Finance Women’s Network and created the “Be More MACHO” programme to help support a more diverse and inclusive workplace. Rebecca was recognised as a “Changemaker” at the 2022 Yorkshire Rainmakers Awards and was added to the exclusive Northern Power Women POWER list in 2023.

Richard Hughes Founder - Zeus Capital

Richard Hughes

Richard has over 30 years’ experience of corporate activity including flotations, capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions for both public and private companies. Richard was a founder and non-executive director of boohoo.com and is the founder of corporate finance firm Zeus Capital. He backed Crawford Healthcare in 2009 and oversaw the company’s turnaround and sale to US-based Acelity, in a deal which was valued at more than £100m. Richard is also a director of numerous other private companies.

Jodi Birkett Partner - Deloitte

Jodi Birkett is a partner in Deloitte’s Financial Advisory practice. Jodi leads the Transaction Services team in the North West and works across privately owned businesses, private equity houses and their portfolios and listed businesses. Jodi focuses on the Telecoms, Media and Telecoms industries as well as Consumer, including retail, travel and professional services.

Jodi is the Clients and Industries lead for Financial Advisory in the UK and across North South Europe and also leads our TMT sector in the Regions and a member of the UK TMT Exec.

Stephen Roberts Partner - ECI Partners

Stephen is a Partner at ECI in Manchester and part of its Investment Team. ECI is a leading growth-focused private equity firm, which launched its internal D&I strategy in 2019. Stephen leads investments into growth businesses and works closely with them throughout the lifecycle of the investment. He enjoys meeting with exciting businesses and inspirational management teams.  He joined ECI in 2014 after spending his earlier career advising tech and services businesses at PwC and has since worked with a number of software investments, having led investments into Mobysoft and Ciphr, and previously worked with CPOMS. Stephen studied Economics and Politics at the University of York and holds an ACA.

Rob Richardson Head of Corporate Finance North - AZETS

Rob has been advising SME in connection with building and realising shareholder value since 1991.

In particular, Rob has extensive experience in selling owner-managed businesses and private equity transactions across many market sectors.

Rob understands the needs of the clients with which he specialises and, as such, takes a hands-on approach: getting involved at all stages of his transactions.

Rob heads up Azets’ Corporate Finance team for the North – leading teams in Manchester, Yorkshire, North-East and Scotland.

Caspar Waters Founding Partner - eComplete

Caspar is the founder of eComplete, an investor in and accelerator of direct-to-consumer brands. The business has over 100 staff around the world, who specialise in a wide range of key activities for brand success. Caspar led the firm’s investment in CurrentBody.com, one of the world’s leading beauty device brands.

Caspar is chartered accountant and has spent his career working across multiple disciplines of corporate finance including restructuring, M&A and growth capital.

Michael Berger Head of Corporate Finance | M&A | Investments - Together

Michael operates as an Investment Director, overseeing a portfolio of investments, and as the Head of Corporate Finance for Together, the UK’s largest non-bank lender. Specialising in high-value partnerships and strategic opportunities, his extensive career spans both large and small advisory businesses, latterly holding directorships across financial services and technology businesses. A Chartered Accountant by training and originally from Manchester, Michael lived in France during his formative years and has also worked professionally in London. Known for his straightforward and commercial approach, he boasts a strong track record in equity and debt-funded M&A transactions within the small to mid-market deals space and has worked with several of the UK’s fastest-growing companies.

Jacob Leone Investment Manager - Lloyds Development Capital

Jacob is an Investment Manager in LDC’s North West team, based in Manchester. He works with ambitious management teams looking to grow their business with the support of a private equity partner.

Jacob joined LDC in 2019 and has supported on investments into CTI Digital – a digital transformation agency; Marmalade Game Studios – a digital game developer and publisher; IEG4 – a public sector software provider; and Rhino Products – a leading European LCV accessories brand.
Prior to joining LDC, Jacob spent 7 years at Grant Thornton.
