Before re-training as a Coach and Facilitator, Cath spent 15 years as a Barrister so difficult conversations with clients, clerks and judges were her norm.

She has brought that experience into her flagship workshop on Managing Difficult Conversations which is aimed at everybody, not just lawyers.

If you have been avoiding a conversation, perhaps because you “fear confrontation” then the chances are you are stuck with something you would like to be different – in a more junior role, on lower pay or simply facing team or meeting dynamics that are unhelpful.

In this workshop delegates will get the chance to learn about and experiment with techniques from the courtroom to enable them to speak up for themselves and others in a work setting and enable them to achieve their full potential.

The topics will include:

- Being braver than you think you are

- Having conversations with purpose

- Strategic ways to tip the scales in your favour

- The importance of preparation

- Ending conversations effectively

There will be a particular focus on both giving and receiving feedback – areas of communication that many find difficult and, therefore, tend to shy away from.

We will also look at the difficult conversations that happen by surprise – when somebody confronts you out of the blue and how you can safely negotiate those situations.

About the Speakers:

Catherine Brown Founder & Coach - Skilful Conversation

Catherine Brown practised as a barrister for 15 years at Kings Chambers in Manchester, and brings all of that advocacy experience with her into her coaching and training business, Skilful Conversation Limited, www.skilfulconversation.com.

Since leaving the bar, Catherine has worked globally as a trainer and coach, founding her company in 2018.

As a coach, she deploys her courtroom skills to delve beneath the surface and identify what is perhaps not being said, or any incongruity between what is being said and what has been done. She is passionate about empowering senior professionals to achieve their full potential and the impact of the coaching techniques she uses with them.

She has also distilled her vast experience from the courtroom and negotiations into a workshop on Managing Difficult Conversations, helping people break through barriers which are stopping them asking for what they want, or those who are struggling to communicate effectively.
