Join the pro-manchester Social Mobility Committee for a highly interactive, discussion‑led event designed to spark honest conversations, share lived experience, and shape meaningful action ahead of Social Mobility Day.

Social mobility in Greater Manchester is a complex, systemic challenge — but one that employers and communities can influence together. This session brings together employers, early‑career voices, HR and EDI professionals, and individuals with lived experience to explore what progress really looks like in practice.

What to Expect:

Across the session, attendees will take part in facilitated roundtable discussions covering themes such as recruitment and access, barriers to progression, retention, organisational culture, and what “good” truly looks like. Live polling throughout will help surface trends, challenges and opportunities for collective change.

Whether you’re just starting your social mobility journey or already building structured programmes, this session will help you connect with peers, hear practical ideas, and leave with clear next steps to take back to your organisation.

Schedule:

  • 12.00pm - Registration, networking and light lunch on arrival
  • 12.20pm Opening insights from the Social Mobility Committee and guest speakers
  • 12.50pm Facilitated roundtable discussions across key themes
  • 13.30pm Regroup and collective feedback
  • 13.50pm A closing summary with key takeaways and commitments

Who should attend:

Employers, HR/talent/EDI professionals, early‑career voices, individuals with lived experience, and anyone seeking to improve fairness, access and opportunity within their organisation.

About the Speakers:

Shamaine Armstrong Director of Programmes - Leadership Through Sport & Business

Shamaine is the Director of Programmes for National Social Mobility charity LTSB and has over 10 years experience working in the charity sector. After graduating with a PGCE in Lifelong Learning specialising in Dance, Shamaine worked for the National Citizen Service (NCS) and then joined LTSB in 2018 and following 2 promotions is now the Programmes Director. LTSB is a charity that prepares and supports bright young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into meaningful roles with major firms all across the UK. The programme personally and professionally develops young people through practical skills coaching, higher-level critical thinking sessions, the power of sport and how to utilise the transferable skills you learn from the field into the workplace, and insight events with leading companies, business professionals, and LTSB alumni.

I have always been passionate about working with young people and helping them reach their full potential. Sports has significantly shaped who I am today, and I believe the transferable skills gained through sports are crucial in early career development.

Geraldine Finn Marketing & Business Development Director - Menzies LLP

I’m Geraldine and look after all things marketing and business development related. From branding to business relationships, I try to cover all bases.  My team and I make sure that #teambeevers are represented in the best way and in all the right places.

With over 20 years of experience, I enjoy working with like-minded individuals who are keen to engage, grow and ensure their business is a sustainable one.  I love the work I do with clients around social value and community projects, and not forgetting the time I spend with students in my role as Enterprise Advisor at a secondary school in Lancashire.

Stephen Curran Founder - Catalysis Hubs

Catalysis Hubs turns collaboration across a regional economy from something fragile and time-limited into something structured, governed and self-sustaining. We work with businesses, voluntary and community leaders, and impact investors to:

·       co-design and deliver services that improve performance and growth

·       enable non-financial value exchange through commitment pools

·       unlock, distribute and recycle revenue and value locally

·       strengthen more inclusive and resilient regional economies

There is compelling evidence that strong systems are built on cooperation, where value is shared and participation is broad and systems that only work for some don’t last.
