Member Spotlight: Cath Brown, Professional Coach & Trainer – Skilful Conversation

13th March 2024, 1:26 pm

I’m Cath Brown, a professional coach and trainer and former barrister. I run a coaching and training business called Skilful Conversation with a focus on professional career development, confidence and communication. I also run training courses in which I cross-examine people to achieve learning outcomes that really stick especially around health and safety leadership.

Career highlight:I have been lucky enough to deliver training across the world from Moscow to the Caymans and training in San Francisco and LA really stands out as a highlight for me. Although I do also love to deliver training in Manchester. Closer to home, every time I work with a client who moves towards achieving their goals, I definitely do a happy dance.

Name three words that describe your personality: Warm, open, authentic

What’s the best thing about pro-manchester? I love the events – there are so many option to learn something, meet great people and often get food thrown in – always a bonus.

What are your priorities for 2024? My word for the year is “Selective” so I am aiming to work with clients who are ready to achieve their full potential. On a personal level, I am challenging myself to be braver. I have already signed up for an acting class and, actually, that came out of a conversation at a Pro-Manchester event.

What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment? I got rid of my car last year so have been loving some of the initiatives around greener travel, especially a £5 bus ticket and help with becoming a cyclist from group lessons to one to ones. Simple things that really make a difference. Although there’s some way to go until our public transport is up to scratch.

Favourite meeting place in Manchester: I love Ducie Street Warehouse or the beautiful spaces inside the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel.

What types of business would you like to meet? I’d love to connect with professional services firms who value their people and want to support their development. Also organisations in safety-critical industries – training on the legal implications of keeping their people safe, including some cross examination to get experience of what it might be like to face that in real life, can really benefit those companies.
