Manchester technology firm UKFast has donated £50,000 to Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham’s homeless charity, A Bed Every Night, through the UKFast Community and Education Trust.

The charity ensures there is a bed available for every person sleeping on the streets, regardless of the weather. The donation boosts the cause following the successful Raise the Roof charity concert at the Victoria Warehouse last month.

UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones MBE said: “We’ve seen first-hand the escalating issue of homelessness in Greater Manchester. It’s unfathomable that on the doorsteps of one of the most successful cities in the country, so many people continue to live without a stable roof over their heads.

“Attending the Raise the Roof concert, it was clear that what Andy and the team at A Bed Every Night are doing is pushing in the right direction to help those in greatest need in our region. Gail and I, with the backing of the UKFast Community and Education Trust trustees, knew we wanted to help and pledged £50,000 there and then.”

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said: “It’s heartening to see the private sector getting involved to support worthwhile causes. Lawrence and Gail are setting a fantastic example to other businesspeople in the region and donations like this help A Bed Every Night make a significant difference to people living in extreme hardship.”

The donation comes as UKFast co-founders Lawrence and Gail Jones announced a £5m donation to the UKFast Community and Education Trust, which is dedicated to supporting disadvantaged young people across Greater Manchester.
