Responding to Disruption: how to bridge the skills gap
Drawing on insights from professional practice and academia, the panel discussion examines how we can bridge skills gaps in an age of digital disruption. The panel will consider how to address the skills gaps caused by shifts in our fundamental expectations around behaviours, organisational culture, market expectations, and, technology integration caused by changing digital capabilities.
About the Speakers:
Professor Paul Smith was a Partner at PwC before joining Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. His role at PWC involved leadership roles in technology and innovation within the tax division of PwC. Since joining the University, Paul has worked on research examining the psychology of business buying and business decision making, and has worked with two high technology SME’s developing their innovative new business models.
Stuart Finnerty is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. Stuart recently joined academia after spending 20 years working in the financial sector. Much of this time was spent leading teams and directly delivering for both SME and personal customers. Most recently, he was the Director for Business Banking for NatWest in Cheshire.
Anna Egan is a Reader in Accounting and Finance based in Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. Anna’s research areas include corporate sustainability and public sector governance. In particular, Anna is interested in the area of SME sustainability and how companies can future proof their operations by adopting sustainable business practices. Proactive engagement in this area can go some way to addressing the perceived skills gap disruption creates.
